The September program,” A Garden Faire,” is certainly one you will not want to miss! The “faire”
will showcase 14 of our members’ talents, which include cooking, fairy gardens, making note cards, garden art, etc. Each attendee will receive a booklet thatincludes instructions, recipes, pictures, etc. See you in September at this special

ICC LANDSCAPE & GARDEN DAY

The 30th annual ICC Landscape and Garden Day will be held
Saturday, September 11, from 9AM to 3PM, at the East Peoria
Campus. The theme this year is "Gardening Goes Green". Peoria
Garden Club will be giving away free plants and will have a table
displaying information and photos about PGC's civic projects and
events. There will be seminars to attend and free shuttles from the
gym parking lot. Bring your friends and plan to come for a fun day!

Topic: "Winter Solstice Seed Exchange" with Bob Streitmatter
Description: Relax...have coffee...visit with friends...trade seeds and growing
information.

Tuesday, December 21st is the Winter Solstice, and we will celebrate
with our first ever Winter Solstice Seed Exchange. Bob Streitmatter will give a short
talk on propagation and scarifying seeds. Members are also invited to bring their
prepackage seeds to share or trade with other members. Please include special
growing tips if you have them too. Light refreshments will be served in the festively
decorated conservatory.  Seedless members are welcome at this workshop. Contact Nancy with any questions.

Barb and Pat, former educators, owners of 48 acres of wildlife habitat will speak on landscaping for wildlife and also present a short program on making maple syrup.

  Garden club members and their guests are invited to the spring luncheon to be held again this year at Weaver Ridge. Peoria Garden Club is hosting the District III‘s spring meeting. District III is celebrating their 50th Anniversary and Peoria Garden Club is celebrating its 80th Anniversary. The date is April 7, 2011. Tickets may be purchased at the March meeting. Description: “Dad and His Roses”—As Van Gogh is to painting;
Dr. Griffith Buck is to roses.

Presenter: Mary Buck, daughter of the late Griffith Buck, from
Ames, Iowa. Dr. Buck, a rose hybridizer at Iowa State University,
developed 85 cultivars. The Buck roses are famous for being
disease resistant and needing no protection in Zone 5. (A free
drawing will be held for a gift certificate for 2-Buck roses.

Topic: "Pruning Trees and Shrubs" with Ella Maxwell
Description: The workshop will be presented by Ella Maxwell at Hoerr's Nursery.
She will present a Powerpoint presentation on pruning, plus a walking tour and demonstration. If you plan to do the walking tour, please dress for the weather. You
will of course also be able to browse the gift shop.  .

Tues., April 19th Workshop

"Celebrating the Seasons" will be a cooking and
party planning workshop in the Lakeview Museum Auditorium. We will have four of our club members plan menus,create festive table settings,and other creative ideasfor entertaining. You will also get to taste samples of the recipes. We will have all of the recipes printed up into a little booklet for those attending to take home. The cost is $5.00, and since the District III Spring Meeting at Weaver Ridge will replace our regular meeting,you will need to sign up early by April 7th.  More information in the March Green Thumb.
